Feedback on various DDT applications
Genie - an Audio Transfer Application for a National Broadcasting Corporation
- Solent: "You mean that's ALL we have to do to get GNS audio on air? That's F***** brilliant"
- Devon: "This is really great. So much easier"
- Sheffield: " ...the difference this makes is amazing"
- Berkshire: "The word from my bulletin readers is that the system is working flawlessly. In short they love it for its simplicity and the time it saves them. I came to one of the first big meetings at White City where the Genie was discussed and it sounded very impressive then. It's great to see that the delivery of such a good idea has matched the brilliance of the concept. If any glitches emerge as the days go by I'll let you know, but that's a promise I'm not expecting to deliver on."
- Essex: "Things going v well so far. Much easier to find things, speeds up bully preparation & no hunting for packages that were sent long before you arrived in the office. I just hope the changes to the newsroom editorially will work as well."
- Lincolnshire: "You already know what we in Lincolnshire think - Genie is an overwhelming success. WE LOVE GENIE....and I'm not just saying that because of my work on Project England."
- Shropshire: "Everyone who's used the Genie system at [the Corporation] Radio Shropshire seems very pleased with it. Easier to find clips and packages, and it's appearing in Mos Audio, so that's working fine. "
- Merseyside: "I'm a reporter at radio merseyside and have been using genie for the whole weekend doing the bulletin shift. It's been tumultuous to say the least…what with condi rice and all - but gns genie has made it so much easier. This sounds like one of those letters you read in ads for diet products in trashy magazines, but I think the system is absolutely fantastic. It saves so much time, the clips are far easier to find. It means I can concentrate on the local news and be confident that the national audio will be there. Incredibly user friendly. Thank you from at least one journo for making a 24 hour weekend less of a trial!!"
- Support Services: "Thanks for the manuals … very comprehensive (now if only we got this level of documentation from every supplier)"
Web Briefing 2 - A Wires Viewer and Running Order Collection Tool for a National Broadcasting Corporation
- Delhi Bureau: "The connectivity problems associated with [the Corporation's] laptops have ruled them out for use in South Asia for some time and the correspondents and producers find WB2 a welcome source of wires and running orders. Peter in particular finds the running orders and users them when deciding how strongly to pitch a story to London, in relation to what it is competing with."
- "I've found WB2 very useful on the road. Wires and searching have worked well. Running orders are also very useful, but I am interested mainly in the flagship TV bulletins and I've found they don't come up early enough. I have these as my favourite in the running order secion. I was pleased to hear that it will be possible to search one wire at a time. I'd like to be able to search PA only as it would be quicker."
Quickfire - a simple, effective editorial piece online filing system for a National Broadcasting Corporation
- Used during the Chilean Miners Rescue: "... the texts and emails started flowing in from Chile. [...] Much of this was colour for the News website's 'live event' page which would not have been gathered by normal routes."
